On April 17th, 2011 (local U.S. time), Hino's medium duty truck, which was designed exclusively for the North American market, was named ATD Medium Duty Commercial Truck of the Year (*1) for the second consecutive year.
The award winning model is the 2012MY HINO 338, which is part of the HINO 600 series. The HINO 338 is the only conventional medium duty truck equipped with engines that are in compliance with stringent EPA 2010 emission standards without the use of credits (*2). In addition to fuel efficiency excellence, it also offers durability and a safe and comfortable operating environment.
The nominees were judged on a wide range of attributes, ranging from innovation, design and safety, to fuel economy and driver and owner satisfaction. The HINO 338 received high scores in all categories from the panel of judges, resulting in Hino's second consecutive win, following the Hino 268's receipt of the same award the previous year.

The Truck of the Year award was established by American Truck Dealers (ATD) in 2009, initially in the heavy duty category only (class 8), and the medium duty category (classes 3-7) was subsequently added in 2010. Nominees are evaluated based on innovation, design, safety, fuel economy, and driver and owner satisfaction, by a panel of automotive journalists.
American Truck Dealers (ATD) is a division of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), and was established in 1970. Approximately 2000 truck dealers belong to this division.
Credits were issued to manufactures that reduced emissions beyond levels stipulated by previous emissions regulations, which could then be used to offset emissions levels exceeding the allowable limits of subsequent regulations, helping manufactures comply with EPA 2010 emissions regulations. Actual credit amounts are calculated considering various factors, including sales volumes.
